Love your memories of your grandpop. I can see the bedroom and the kitchen table scene from your description. I had a family sites tour planned w my mom and then she went & died unexpectedly 3 months before my planned visit. Luckily I have many scraps of paper saved from her family story tangents during our phone visits—I was always scrambling for an envelope or handy scrap of paper and pen when she called! And a tape or two I need to transcribe—thx for the reminder!
Jesus. Bad doesn't even begin to describe it. You should take a page out of Brian Cuban's playbook. (Brian is the brother of Mark Cuban.) If you happen to search him on Twitter or Facebook, you'll see how he's been flogging the absolute eff out of his first novel (The Ambulance Chaser), and shamelessly so. But you know what? He's sold tens of thousands of copies already.
I really enjoyed this newsletter. I, too, had moments with my granddad like you had with yours. In fact, he told me a few stories my dad (his son) didn’t know. The older I get, the more I appreciate moments like I spent in 1994 (researching for my Masters thesis in history) with grandpa. I love hearing stories like this any time you feel like writing them. Thanks.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Scott! So glad you had that time with your granddad. And you're absolutely right: you appreciate them the most the older you get.
Love this...thanks for sharing.

So great that you through to jot some notes down! And I wish I'd brought a tape recorder to capture Lou's stories.
This is excellent. You should consider taking up writing.
(FYI, it would be a gas reading some of your old fitness and nutrition tips from Men's Health.)
Hah! I haven't looked at this stuff in so, so long. I'll dip into the archives to see if there's anything worth sharing.
How do we buy the comic book when it comes out? Will it be on Amazon?
I'm so bad at marketing my own stuff. : / Let me get back to you on that...

Great piece, Duane - thanks! Looking forward to the new comic project, too!
Thanks so much, Max!
