Ken Bruen was a brilliant and very funny crime story writer and a great supporter of other writers! He wrote blurbs for all 5 of my books. I had the pleasure of meeting him some years back when he was in NYC @ the Mysterious Bookshop. R.I.P.
Thanks Duane. I only read a couple of his collaborations with Jason Starr on the Hard Case Crime label and loved them. As I'm a year sober, I'd love to check out the one series. I especially enjoyed his explaining his writing ritual.
I love the fact that he was a Beckett fan. It explains a lot. Thanks for sharing this, Duane. Farewell, Mr. Bruen. I'll join you for a drink in years to come.
This news bums me out to no end - Bruen was a master writer; truly original. Fantastic interview by you, however - one of the best I’ve read of our man Ken. RIP Ken Bruen.
Thank you for this. The Guards shifted my world. Though he and I never met in person, Jerry Rodriguez introduced us via email, and Ken soon became the best pen-pal ever. I loved that dude.
Thanks, great interview. It’s been a few years since I read Bruen. I think American Skin, coincidentally, was the last I picked up. This post prompted me to get a few of his more recent books.
Thank you for this. Will have to go back and check out some of these earlier titles.
Great chat with one of the very best.
Love his spare, sharp prose, like Irish crime fiction haiku.

Been a Ken Bruen fan for years - thanks for posting the interview. Also lost James Carlos Blake recently - another great writer.
